Well the bios on the BBC America page kind of suck but the ITV/BBC ones are pretty good so you could start there. Just google Primeval and it should be the first link.
If I remember correctly they also have bios on all the creatures so that should help a little as well.
The problem/advantage of the Primeval Fandom is that much like the SGA one we kind of change the characters a lot in fandom. Like in SGA Rodney is stronger/braver/more awesome than he is an cannon, so to are the Primeval characters. We even have a team of special forces soldiers who are completely fandom and yet turn up in many different people's fic.
But at any time if you are confused don't be afraid to ask question, we are a pretty friendly fandom.

But i'll give you a quick outline of everything.
Season One: Nick Cutter is a professor of evolutionary biology and Stephen Hart is his assistant, Connor Temple is a student and comes to Nick with a story about a creature in the Forest of Dean (Big in fic, lots of stories set there). Nick's wife Helen dissapeared there...8? years ago and so he goes along. Abby Maitland is working at a zoo and gets called out about an exotic pet, which turns out to be Rex, a dinosaur. Claudia ..Brown? is from the Home Office and also turns up at the forest. They all meet up and find an anomaly, (find an icon, they look pretty cool, all shattered glass and shimmer). Gorgonopsid comes out, there is chasing, eventually Stephen hits it with a car. In there somwhere we meet James Lester, Home Office and possibly Captian Tom Ryan, the special forces man. Next they find giant bugs in the subway, Stephen gets bitten by the centipead bug and Nick has to save him, Helen comes back threw an anomaly. 3 someone gets eaten in a swimming pool, Big swimming dino tries to eat Abby+Connor, Nick goes threw underwater anomaly, finds Helen. She asks him to stay, he goes back and nearly drowns, Soldiers go threw and get Helen. 4 Helen is on custody and not talking, then says there wil be sabretooth cats at a certain place, they go. Connor's friends Tom and Duncan (Nerdy in the kind of very scary way that also involves conspiracy theories and to much star trek) bug him and follow him to the stadium. Helen escapes through the anomaly, Stephen follows, ends up in field with dozens of anomalies. They go back and DODO'S! (so very cute come through, they catch them, one dies and one escapes, taken by Tom and Duncan. The dead one they take back and autopsy but it starts moving and a giant bug comes out. The other dodo bites Tom. Bug is a parasite, moves threw biting, will kill Tom, makes him super agressive. He bits a doctor, they chase Tom, Tom finds Abby and chases her. Connor calms Tom down and hold him while he dies. 5. Guy gets eaten on golf course, they go to old hotel, chase ..pteradon?, turns out is it small flock of dions eating people, they go after Nick and Claudia, Helen saves Claudia and dissapears. Nick kisses Claudia. 6. Future predator, evolved bat. They chase each other around, kill one, there are babies. They want to take it through the forest of dean anomaly into one in the past (Permian era)which leads to the future. Turns out there was also a daddy predator, it chases them. Captain Ryan dies, one of the babies gets away in the permian and Nick returns with Helen. She reveals Stephen had an afair with her and asks him to go with her, he tells her she's a bitch. She goes back through the anomaly. Then Nick asks where Claudia is and no one has heard of her and the anomaly pulses and the series ends.
And there are still some people who haven't seen second season, so you wouldn't be that left out if you hadn't but reply if you want that one too.
